If you're going to lose your passport, Boston is one of the better
cities in which to do it. That's because Boston has several different
options available for getting your lost passport replaced in the
required timeframe. Let's take a look at the different lost passport
replacement procedures and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Lost Passport Replacement at an Acceptance Facility
The
most common method of replacing a lost passport is to apply in person
at a passport acceptance facility. There are currently 7 of these
scattered throughout Boston, mainly in post offices.
To get a new passport, you'll need the following documents:
-
Proof of identity, such as your driver's license or other
government-issued photo ID. You'll need both the original and a clear
photocopy.
Proof of citizenship, such as your birth certificate, naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship.
-
Form DS-64: Statement Regarding a Lost or Stolen Passport
-
Passport Application Form DS-11
-
2 passport photos
-
Money to pay passport fees.
Once you've applied to replace your lost passport, you can expect to
wait 6 weeks for the new passport to arrive in the mail if you've
selected normal processing, and 3 weeks if you've selected expedited
processing.

you don't have 3 weeks to wait, don't worry! Boston is one of 21 cities
