Keep in mind that passport photo guidelines are to help you avoid unnecessary delays when applying for a passport.
Take
Your Own Photo: With a digital camera, a good printer and some photo
paper you can take your own passport photo. Today many people find that
taking their own passport photos can save them time and energy.
What
to Wear: Many professional photographers will encourage you to wear
something simple; a solid colored shirt or a suit for example. Avoid
wearing a lot of jewelry or jewelry that is large.
What size do I
need: The rules state that photos must be two inches wide and two inches
tall. Only your face and upper shoulders should be seen. You must
submit two identical photos when you apply for your passport.
What
type of photo: Your photos must be on photographic paper and the
background needs to be light in color. Hanging a sheet, using the bottom
half of a light colored wall or a door will provide a decoration free
background.
Restrictions: Passport photos that have a dark
background will be rejected. If the two by two inch photo does not
contain your full face and shoulders it will be rejected. The photograph
you submit should look like you. Photos older than six months,
especially if your appearance has changed drastically will be rejected.
Photographs taken in an instant photo booth is not acceptable and will
be rejected.
Where can I get my photo: Many in store photography
studios, some drug stores and many professional photographers offer
passport photo services. The days of waiting weeks for a passport photo
are over. Rush type photography business, some travel agencies and even
some business supply companies provide passport photos in one hour or
less. While a passport photo is not a family heirloom some locations
will allow you to choose from a small set of proofs before printing.
By following the passport photo guidelines you will speed up your passport process.
